The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Board approves construction of an international standard football stadium in Islamabad

During its sixth meeting this year, Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad approved many infrastructural and developmental projects. One such key decision approved in the meeting was the construction of an international standard football stadium in Islamabad. This step is pivotal for all the athletes and football enthusiasts in Pakistan who have been looking forward get a better sports infrastructure in the country.

The meeting was held at CDA headquarters and was chaired by Captain (Retd) Noor ul Amin Mengal. Many stakeholders, including board members, architects, and engineers attended the meeting. According to informed sources, the construction of a cricket and football stadium in the federal capital was a crucial agenda point for the board meeting.

Two expansive sites measuring 20 acres each, located near the Motorway (MI) and Kuri, had been proposed for these sporting arenas.

Previously CDA had collaborated with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2012 to build a state-of-the-art cricket stadium but the project received a major setback in 2018; the Supreme Court had scrapped the area for the cricket stadium as it lied in the confines of the National Park area.

The creation of a Building and Housing Control Wing in Islamabad was also approved during the meeting. This wing will be established to address and eliminate illegal constructions and enforce building by-laws. Rainwater harvesting was also made mandatory in residential and commercial buildings in Islamabad, during the meeting.

To ensure compliance of regulatory by-laws and prevent illegal constructions, the wing will have a field staff of 50 teams including one assistant director and two surveyors.

The construction of an international standard football stadium in Islamabad is a major developmental step in improving Pakistan’s sports sector. This stadium will play a significant role in improving the sports infrastructure of the country and create a  platform where athletes can enhance their talent and skills. The stadium is to be constructed in accordance with international standards and will provide state-of-the-art facilities for athletes and sports enthusiasts.
